The Hidden Oracle (Book Review)

Looking at Harley, my anger evaporated. I felt hollow, silly, ashamed of myself.
Yes, me, Apollo... ashamed.
Truly, it was an event so unprecedented, it should have ripped apart the cosmos.

The Hidden Oracle

Genre: Still haven't decided what this is called.  Anyone know what the proper title would be?
Author: Rick Riordan
Content: Nothing, really.
Main Character: Lester Papadopoulos (or rather, the god Apollo)

Brief Overview:
After being blamed for the war against Gaea, Apollo is punished by being turned mortal, required to complete trials before he can be restored to Olympus.  Along the way, he meets Meg McCaffery, a young demigod with a troubled past.  With the help of Percy Jackson and his Camp Half-Blood friends, the scrawny, flabby, acne-ridden former sun god may just be able to earn forgiveness in the eyes of his father.

Placement in Series:
Book 1 of 5 (I think?) in "The Trials of Apollo" series.

What I Thought:
Lester and Meg are my precious children. *wraps them both in blankets and places them with the others I have collected* The story was engaging and funny, and while it was a bit short, it was everything I've come to expect from a Rick Riordan story.

The Characters:
Lester/Apollo - In The Titan's Curse, I was not a fan of Apollo.  Yes, he was amusing, but he annoyed me after awhile.  So I wasn't sure how I would feel about him going into this book.  However, Rick really took this opportunity to make him human, and I really appreciated it.

Meg - She's the daughter of an unknown goddess, seemingly living on the street, who rescues Lester from bullies and claims him as her servant for the length of his trials. And at first, she too annoyed me. But she grew on me a lot by then end. Now she must be protected.

PERSEUS. JACKSON.
HE'S ON A SWIM TEAM, Y'ALL.

(Also Mrs. O'Leary is back, which is pretty great)

Will I keep reading?
Big. Fat. YES.
Just wait until the last chapter. THE QUESTING DREAM TEAM IS ASSEMBLED.

Overall Rating:
4.5 choruses of "Y.M.C.A." out of 5

If you've been following the fandom of Rick Riordan as much as I have over the years, you should definitely read this.  If you haven't been... well, I highly, HIGHLY recommend it.

  1. Gaaah I've been interested in this one. But for some reason I thought I would have to read all the other Percy Jackson books in order to understand this one? is that the case? :D

    1. Hmm, yeah, I think you should definitely read the others first. But they're fantastic and totally worth it. And yes, there are 10, but they tend to be quick reads.
But JONNY YOU SHOULD READ THEM. BE SUCKED INTO THE FANDOM. INTO THE PIT YOU WILL GO MUAHAHA *cough*

  3. I'm such a troll, but I really liked this book mostly because it didn't focus on Percy XD I mean, Percy's great and all, but I was definitely ready for him to not be the main character. And he wasn't. And it was great.
I have always loved Apollo though... Favorite god in the whole thing. <3 And I'm still in love with Nico. Go away, Will. He's mine.

    1. xD Yeah, I can see that. I'm happy for Percy to finally be left semi-alone while stuff goes down xD
